I was asked to prepare a devotional recently. I found myself inspired by beautiful, tall, healthy palm trees in Nicaragua as I was on a mission trip in Leon. These trees with their fronds blowing in the wind under a sunny blue sky near Telica mountain brought me such serenity and a refreshing peace to my soul as I just stood beneath and watched them. I thought about how many storms they must have endured. Is it not amazing how palm trees are so strong with an incredible root system that they can withstand so much wind pressure in a hurricane? Many trees cannot endure what a palm tree can. It is quite remarkable.
Maybe you have survived a terrible storm in your life. I feel as tho I have. I feel as tho I have survived many storms, including the greatest storm of my life just in the past two years when my husband died tragically in a car wreck. The thing about storms is that they often come suddenly out of nowhere. Sometimes there is plenty of warning, while other times there is little or no warning at all. If you have found yourself looking around at devastation and ruin after a mighty storm, take time right now to be thankful that you are still here, still moving, still breathing, still going forward. Isn't it such a humbling and wonderful thing to know YOU are stronger than the storm that blew into your life? By the grace of God, and the years growing in his grace, we find strength that overcomes even the greatest storms of life. He is faithful through it all.
